The water quality of your pond is directly affected by the things that flow into it. Sediment/silting of your pond can occur from natural occurrences such as heavy rain and runoff. Man-made issues like high nutrient concentrations caused by runoff from residential landscapes and agricultural fields will also have an impact on your water quality. Managing what flows into your pond is critical to your pond’s appearance, function, and even smell!
Land management does not stop there, however. Your pond/lake is part of an ecosystem. And that ecosystem will attract all sorts of wildlife. Most species are desirable, but if populations grow too large they can create problems.
